Amy grew up in the coal mining town of St. Charles in Southwest Virginia, where she takes great pride in her Appalachian heritage as a coal miner’s daughter. She attributes her passion for helping others to the example set by her parents, who regularly helped those in need throughout her childhood.

In 1993, Amy moved to Knoxville and completed her nursing education at Carson-Newman College, graduating in 1999 and following in her mother’s footsteps to become a nurse. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in 2013 from Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky.

While in nursing school, Amy worked at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee and began her career in the cardiac unit upon graduation. She had the privilege of learning from some of the field’s most respected cardiologists and clinicians. Amy then further honed her cardiac expertise in the inpatient and outpatient catheterization recovery areas at both Baptist and St. Mary’s hospitals. After six years in primary care as a nurse practitioner, Amy returned to the hospital setting as a hospitalist.

Amy is happily married and the proud mother of three grown children. Outside of work, she enjoys biking, hiking, and kayaking when the weather permits. She is also an avid reader and singer and cherishes time spent with her husband, family, church family, and close friends.
